Weblogs - Halavais [20 Sep 2005|09:21pm]

Blogging is a fun and interesting way for individuals to share aspects of their lives and to keep in touch or meet other people in the community. Children can use weblogs to display their work and creations so their families and friends or others who have similar interests can view them. In addition, when children are asked to do blogs for school, they get the opportunity to learn from each other as well as help one another. It isn’t that common to hear about children using blogs now, but in the near future more children might be blogging and sharing information and work with other children around the world (similar to having a pen pal).

With computers becoming more prevalent in today’s society, it is no wonder why people choose to keep an online journal (or “blog”) rather than writing their entries in a book. However, when you put your thoughts online, other people have access to your inner thoughts, which might not be a positive thing. The reason why displaying your inner thoughts online would not be positive is because there is a possibility that it can offend someone who might come across your page. Also, if you write about your personal life, a stranger can find out so much information about you just by reading your blogs, and if you think about that in real life, it’s actually quite creepy. There is the possibility to create another identity so that your comments cannot be traced directly back to you, but then your blogs lacks the “personal touch”. So, the important thing is just to be careful what you put in your blogs and avoid directly offending individuals or writing things that you would regret in the future.
